The charter for the Faculty Council at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical (A&M) College (OAMC) was approved by the Board of Regents for the Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical Colleges on October 8, 1953. The faculty approved the charter the next day. The organization is an advisory, not a legislative, body. The president of the College was the chairman of the council for its first 18 years.
